- Article Theft – Underhand SEO Tactics
SEO has always had its fair share of slightly underhand & suspect methods & practices – but there is one method in particular that I think is particularly wrong, and that is article scraping – using software to steal parts of articles, to use as content, without showing the full article including the resource box.
Like all forms of dangerous SEO, this tactic is based on trying to shortcut hard work & cost – but this shortcut is goes further, by attempting to benefit from someone else\’s hard work & cost, without giving anything in return.
Here I will introduce you to the ways that these 3 methods can help to optimise your website for the search engines:
Create a resource box with your links in it. This is where you can promote your website, but I recommend that you just tell a little about yourself with an invitation to visit your site using your main keyword phrase as anchor text in the link. This will not only give you a back link to your site, but will tell the search engines what your site is about.
Submit your article to the article submission sites. I have heard a lot of people say to post to multiple article directories. This is fine, but I recommend you post a unique version of your article to each site to avoid the duplicate content filter at Google. I also find the best article directory to be EzineArticles, but that is my opinion and I advise you to test your own results to see if they are the same for you.
Back links. Back links are not a quick solution for increasing the presence of your site, but like articles, rather for the long-term. You\’ll require patience, but pointing to your site can be an extremely large lever in terms of the amount of effort you put in. It may take a while signing up to some of sites, but as I said they\’ll certainly pay off in the long run. Consider them a marathon, not a sprint.
