So its taken days maybe even weeks building your web site, now all that’s left to do is get it indexed, using submission software which submits to hundreds or even thousand of directories these days is probably a waste of time and money.

The only real player you want on your side to get visitors is Google, 88% of all English speaking Internet users choose Google when they search for information or products, that leaves just 12% for Bing, Yahoo and any others, they shouldn’t be ignored, but come way down on the list for web site promotion.

Your first step to get your site indexed ASAP is to create a Google account, the account is free and provides a host of features that will make promoting your site easier and faster, some of the tools will also help you develop and refine your site to increase its popularity.

Once you have your account set up, login and go to Webmaster Tools, You now need to add a web site, at this point you’ll need to verify that you are the owner of the site by uploading a file or adding a meta tag to one of the pages on your site.

Once you have completed adding your site, the most important step is to add a sitemap, Google will use your sitemap to index your site, adding the sitemap will jump-start the indexing and have your pages listed in Google sometimes within hours. While in your account sign up to the Analytics tool to get some useful information about where your visitors are coming from.

To find out when your site has been indexed login to your account and go to the section – Site configuration, click on the Sitemaps link, here Google will list how many URLs from your site have been submitted and how many have been indexed.
